National Grid: preventing damage with AI
National Grid reduced gas infrastructure damages in its downstate New York territory by 41 percent over an eight-year period. After that time, however, the utility’s damage rate began to plateau around 1.6 damages per thousand.
Looking to further reduce damages, National Grid implemented Urbint Lens for Damage Prevention in 2016. Using the software, the utility drove down damages an additional 72 percent in three years.
In this video, Bob Terjesen, Damage Prevention Manager for National Grid U.S., discusses the utility's successful partnership with Urbint. Watch for insights into how Urbint helped National Grid prioritize risky excavations, better predict no call-in damage, and make the best use of their labor resources throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
